1930
The Troop attended a County Rally at Marlborough to meet the Chief Scout, Lord Baden Powell. the Red Cross.
1931
Saw the opening of new Scout and Girl Guide Headquarters in Mill Street, by the Marchioness of Lansdowne. At this time the Troop numbered 28, with 7 Rovers and with F Gregory as S.M. and L. Garraway as A.S.M. The Girl Guides were under Miss Pound, with numbers of – 16 Guides, 12 Rangers, and about 20 Brownies. In October of this year some Scouts and Rovers were initiated as “Night Hawks” following a night hike over the Downs.
1932
During Whitsun the Troop attended the West Country jamboree at Corston and were visited by Lord Baden Powell. The Chief Scout also met the Mayor and Mayoress of Calne ,( Mr and Mrs F Gale) during the jamboree and an outstanding event was a gymnastic display by the Calne Scouts, performed before the Chief Scout.
1933
The local event was a Scout concert put on by the Troop at the Calne Town Hall. The World Jamboree in Hungary was attended by A.S.M. C. Gregory.
1935
Proved very successful for the Group with the forming of a Cub Pack under Cub Master S.Clarke and A.C.M E. Hand. There was a Scout Show for two nights at the Town Hall called “The Vengeance of the Gang”. During the King George V. Silver jubilee, in May, the Group took charge of the Beacon on Cherhill Downs. They also gave a Gymnastic Display in the Recreation Ground and did the “Running of the Borough Boundaries”. Then came the Rover Moot on “Ingaroo Island” Sweden. Of the 13 Rovers in the Wilt’s contingent, 12 were from Calne. They met Lord Baden-Powell and Prince Gustav of Sweden.
1936
The Chief events of this year were a successful Scout Concert, and a summer camp, at Wyke Regis.
1937
Found the Group in it’s 25th year of Scouting and it’s Silver jubilee, and the occasion was suitably celebrated by the presentation of it’s 1st Group colours by the Mayoress, Mrs Bernard Dixon.
Other notable events included a Garden Fete at The Grange, a concert at the Town Hall and Summer camp at Bowood. Our Silver jubilee also coincided with the 5th World Scouts jamboree held at Vogelzang (Holland) and was attended by W.Pontin, E.Wiltshire, B. Drew and J.Thomas. A surprise visit to the jamboree was also made by G.S.L. Frank Gregory.
1938
Was marked by a memorial service to the Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell, at Calne Parish Church. The address being given by Dr. A. K James, District Commissioner, with over 200 Scouts and Guides etc attending.
1939
An entertainment consisting of 6 short plays was held for two evenings at the Town Hall and the Rovers attended the World Rover Moot at Moncrieff, Scotland. With the outbreak of World War 11, history repeated itself and the Senior members of the Group, like their Brother Scouts of World War 1, joined H.M.Forces. They served in operations of all services and it can be recorded here that they all returned safely with one exception – The exception was john Gegg, who was lost on an operational flight in France on 14th May, 1940. John was a King’s Scout of outstanding ability. He was an enthusiastic member of Service Rover Crews and also kept in close contact with the Group right up to the time of making the Supreme Sacrifice.
