March – The Group launches plans for a major renovation to the Scout Hall.  Now we need to raise a large sum for it to happen. Robert Arnold joins Eagle Scout Troop as an Assistant Scout Leader, welcome.
April – St Georges Day was held in Calne and went very well.
May – 8 members Eagle Troop with Simon Lonsdale (S.L.) and Rob Arnold (A.S.L.) attended a very successful District Camp at the Wiltshire Scout Centre, Potterne.  Weather was mixed but for the small number attending during the early May Bank Holiday.

June – The group decideds to hold a Presentation Evening for this years AGM and during a wonderful evening our GSL, Audrey, announced that as of July she was resiging her post.  Audrey has strongly supported the Group for many years and this was a very sad time for all.

July – After nearly 10 years of service with 1st Calne Simon Lonsdale, SL, Eagle Troop and Caroline Lonsdale, BL, have left due to Simon starting a new job in Gloucestershire.  Simon and Caroline are keeping in touch as Simon is still going to be the website editor.

Cubs attend Summer camp in Hampshire

August – Scouts attend a weeks Summer camp at Cranham in Gloucester.

2012

The Group is 100 Years Old.

February – Calne celebrate their birthday with a day long party presenting the groups new necker and celebration badge.

Sad news at the very unexpected loss of Geoff Lucas, husband of Audrey, and  one of the past leaders here at Calne.

April – Happier news for Audrey Lucas as it has just been announced that she has been awarded the Silver Acorn Award and this is a major award in Scouting only given to Leaders who have at least 20 years service, and their service has been specially distinguished and appreciably better than outstanding.  I think we would all agree a fitting award to a dedicated Scout Leader at Calne.

2014

We are proud to have had 2 of our Scouts selected from over 400 applicants to attend the 23rd World Jamboree in Japan in 2015.

One of the Groups proudest moments this year was our Assistant Scout Leader, Joe Pearson, being awarded the Cornwell Badge at a ceremony at Windsor Castle. Joe was one of only 4 recipients of this award and the first in Wiltshire, an incredible achievement.

2015

Our 2 Scouts had a fantastic time in Japan.

Wolves Cub pack won the District Scrapheap Challenge.

At our AGM, we remembered Mr Allen Duck, one of our veteran Scouters. Whilst Allen was alive he held on to several documents all linked back to this Group, as they meant something to him. Those documents are now in our care, including a Scout Newsletter.

Allen was a member of 1st Calne Scouts, enrolling in August 1931 when he was 13 years old. A few years later he’d, like most young men, left our town to support his Country in one of the bleakest moments in history. He had a few scrapes during that time, being wounded, captured and taken to Rome by the Germans in 1942. Only to make his escape a year later, where I can only assume making use of some of the skills learnt with this Group which helped him survive 4 months before ending up again in the wrong hands again.

An extract from 1st Calne News Letter from that time read “These war time hindrances still milling and weaving will soon pass on, leaving a clear road for us to develop the limitless potentialities that Scouting presents to those who really embrace it”.
